Treaty Settlements between iwi and the Crown usually involve four main areas:
The present CNI Forests Iwi Collective settlement package will cover most of Ngati Whare's commercial redress. Ngati Whare will then need to complete its own, non-collective negotiations on the other areas, including cultural redress. These negotiations are likely to begin in full again if the CNI Forests deal is ratified by all participating iwi - that is, some time after the beginning of July.
Te Runanga o Ngati Whare Iwi Trust will endeavour to keep the iwi informed of progress in negotiations through this website and Ngati Whare Panui. Once negotiations are complete, Te Runanga o Ngati Whare Iwi Trust will again seek the support of the iwi to ratify a deal. No settlement can be concluded unless the iwi votes for it to happen.
